Epic Cathedral Rock Elopement in Sedona, Arizona

Elopements & Weddings
Cathedral Rock is hands down one of the most epic spots for an elopement. Filled with jaw-dropping cliffs, gorgeous backdrops, and deep orange rock, this hike has stunning views everywhere you look. Because of these remarkable, one-of-a-kind views, I’ve always wanted to photograph a Cathedral Rock elopement. So, when I found Britt and Alex through Honeybook, I was delighted that they wanted to be a part of this session.

Britt and Alex have been together for seven years and married for three. And I felt an immediate connection to them because they are also photographers! They live in a van, traveling the country to photograph elopements and weddings.

I met Britt and Alex at the hiking trail for our Cathedral Rock elopement session around 6:00 in the morning, and we set off together up the red rock. I was surprised to see that the trail was still very crowded, even at such an early hour. And while the hike was quick, it definitely got my heart pounding. But the moment we made it to the top, I knew we’d made the right call to come here. The view took my breath away. Cathedral Rock is one of the most gorgeous locations I’ve ever seen.

We took a minute to recover and take in the view; then, we began our session. We had to take some photos at the iconic cliff, of course, and then we kept hiking up to find a few secret spots. No matter where we went, the red rock in the glow of sunrise made for a beautiful backdrop!

Would you plan a Cathedral Rock elopement? I sure would! If you’re considering an elopement here, there are a few quick tips to consider:

  1. Don’t forget to apply for a permit
  2. Plan to go in the winter to avoid crowds
  3. Photograph at sunset or sunrise
  4. Explore the cliffs for secret photo spots
  5. Soak in all the views

And if you’re planning a Cathedral Rock elopement, I’d love to return and photograph it for you! Simply send an inquiry my way so we can begin planning!
