1. Alpenzell

Alpenzell is a small region in the northeastern section of Switzerland, at the foot of the Alpstein mountains. It’s a dreamy spot for your elopement, and it’s perfect for those looking for a little adventure – or a little more convenience. This car-free center makes for a perfect base to explore the nearby mountain peaks, connected by extensive trails and cableways. There’s even a 17th century chapel and hermitage on the cliffs of Ebenalp! 

How do you get here? You can fly into Zurich and take a train to this region. 

2. Swiss National Park

Switzerland’s only national park is located closer to the Italian border in the Western Rhaetian Alps. It’s part of the worldwide UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and home to some incredible trails and wildlife! This national park has wonderful panoramas of the mountain range, as well. 

How do you get here? Rent a car for a three-hour ride from Zurich, or take an approximately 8-hour train ride through the countryside. Alternatively, you can come from mountain communities in Italy.

3. Jungfraujoch

Looking to reach new heights? Jungfraujoch, part of the Bernese Oberland, is home to Europe’s mountain railway station. It’s a truly unique way to experience the Swiss Alps, and a great option for couples looking for something more accessible. At the very top, you will find an observation deck, ice palace, and yummy food. The views are absolutely unbelievable! 

How do you get here? You can reach this area via a three-hour car ride from Geneva or Zurich, or opt to take a train for several hours. 

4. Zermatt

This famous ski resort located right under Matterhorn is only accessible by train, but it’s completely worth the hassle! You can elope in Zermatt pretty much any time of year, and it’s beyond beautiful with lots of opportunities to explore nearby trails and towns. The car-free town is a short train ride away from The Glacier Express, where you’ll find wonderful views of Matterhorn. 

How do you get here? Rent a car in Zurich or Geneva and drive, though you can also take a 3-hour train ride from Geneva. 

5. Ticino

Not many people have heard of this Italian-speaking destination in Switzerland, but it’s growing in popularity every year as a totally wild and whimsical wedding spot for couples. This region, which includes Lugano, is famous for its vineyards, crystal clear blue rivers, and unique hiking trails. You won’t find many places as unique and magical as the Ticino region! 

How do you get here? Fly into Milan and drive to Ticino, or fly into Zurich and drive down (or take a longer train ride!). 

6. Mürren/ Lauterbrunnen

If you’ve been on social media, you’ve probably seen the viral videos from Lauterbrunnen. This magical spot, complete with waterfalls and alpine lakes and a gorgeous backdrop, is even more beautiful in person! Above the valley, accessible only by train, is Mürren, a beautiful mountain village. Cable cars will take you to the top of the mountain, too, for skiing and hiking. Fun fact: the Lauterbrunnen valley was the inspiration for Rivendell in Lord of the Rings! Can you picture a more fairytale spot for your elopement? 

How do you get here? Take a 3-hour train ride from Zurich or Geneva, or rent a car and drive. 

7. Interlaken

On your way to the Lauterbrunnen valley, you’ll drive through Interlaken. This quaint town, situated right between Lake Brienz and Lake Thun, is picturesque with towering mountains on each side. There’s plenty to explore in Interlaken, from castles to mountaintops to lakeside views, but if you’re looking for more, it’s easy to reach Lauterbrunnen for Alpine hiking options. 

How do you get here? Interlaken is easily accessible by train from Zurich and Geneva. 

8. Lausanne 

Looking for that charming village? Lausanne, located on Lake Geneva, has a beautiful, medieval vibe with mountains and the sprawling lake in the background. The hilly old city has a wonderful 12th-century Gothic cathedral and 19th-century Palais de Rumine, so it’s the spot for couples looking for an elopement getaway with a touch of history as well! 

How do you get here? Lausanne is a quick train ride from Geneva.
